We know the problems we face with our dominant culture. We know that education plays a critical role in creating life giving culture. We need places where people can practice a cultural and educational design that respects and draws out the life in all of us. See stories below of those who have participated in Sourced Design and now practice these principles in their lives and communities in all kinds of ways.

I joined the Lab to learn more about the Sourced Design principles, find inspiration and connect with others who are engaging in the messy process of experimenting in educational transformation. It was so encouraging to find support and camaraderie with others who are courageously grounding ideals in practice. The labs themselves are shaped by the principles, so there was connection and intimacy, depth and risk, play and emergence. It was not just talking about the problems, or imagining rosy, what-if futures, rather, through engaging forms, we were invited to learn by actually living into this new way. ~ Chris W., Educator, Virginia

As a theory of emergent, organic becoming for educational institutions and individuals, Sourced Design certainly lives up to its intentions. The gentle support from Springhouse staff and the other lab participants allowed me to explore the tenets of Sourced Design at my own pace and in my own way - yet at the same time, through the interconnectedness of the design, I felt that my experience unfolded in harmony with the other participants. The supported yet self-guided lab gave me the opportunity to contribute my own Sourced Design inspired experiences and revelations to the collective while at the same time learning from the experiences and revelations of others. Though grounded in the local, the presence of an international cohort contributed to the global experience of community-building. Inspiring to say the least! ~ Michael L., Thunder Bay, Canada

I came to the Lab hoping to find insights into the working framework for generative education, in which both the leaders and the learners can maintain and develop their wholeness and agency. Not only did I find a group of people who were living into a co-created authentic life-affirming narrative, but I also found a group of people who were open to the messiness of that activity and open to outside perspectives. This experience has enhanced my life and given me the strength to continue the journey.

It was a great privilege to be part of the Lab at Springhouse school. I believe we were introduced to an education that will one day be mainstream. At the very centre, is not a philosophy or fixed identity, but a design that fosters vitality within each individual. I am filled with energy and excitement. Thank you Springhouse!

The Lab has opened my eyes to the hope and reality that the change and practice we want to see with regard to the purpose and practice of education is very much possible. Interacting with the Springhouse staff and learners, and participating in some of their activities, has given me a glimpse of that hope. I feel more driven to action; to just start. Learning and sharing with fellow participants has solidified my belief of an educational system that draws out life, and focuses on vitality.

Thanks to the Springhouse team for this cohort of the Lab. I connected deeply with the participants and enjoyed the way the facilitators modeled best practices in designing welcoming educational spaces. I look forward to staying in touch with my cohort and helping them achieve their local implementation goals. Thanks to all who participated!

Springhouse's Sourced Design Lab provided me with a network of support and investigation as a writing teacher and graduate student studying education. I put into practice lessons about the need for loving community and engaging learners through vulnerability, including my own. I've also met lifelong friends, good people with the same goals for sustainability, dialogue, diversity, and mutual respect for ourselves and others. ~ Laura J., Writer and Educator, Ohio

The Design Lab gave me the community, purpose and structure I needed to push myself out of my comfort zone and bring in more vitality to my professional and personal life. Through the caring guidance of Jenny & H as well as engaging and community driven online sessions and tasks, I was able to connect with people who I immediately felt comfortable with. It's so cool knowing that there are people like you in different corners of the world and working in a variety of sectors. I am grateful for the inspiring people in our group and continue to put into practice the lessons I learned through this experience.

It was invigorating to have the space and learning community to consider my work through the lenses of vulnerability, community, vitality. I notice that, as a result of considering vulnerability in every interaction, I have been able to deepen my work relationships and build much greater trust. And unexpectedly, as a result of working more intentionally, I was able to fulfill a dream of having the work that is so dear to my heart presented in two highly regarded national forums!

There’s a beautiful mystery connected to Springhouse and their design principles that can only be unlocked when you intentionally step into that mystery and explore. The Sourced Design Lab is a great place to take that first step as you are guided by facilitators who intimately know the terrain. This is not a closed loop experience. Rather, it’s a safe way to begin a journey that will last a lifetime, and the Lab community will be there with you in stride through it all. ~ Paul H, Education Imagineer, Denver, CO

It's one thing to memorize a framework, but it's a whole different story to put it into practice. In the Sourced Design Lab, I was introduced to a refreshing framework for approaching learning design projects but -- more importantly -- I was encouraged to put it into practice, and supported in doing so. I enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to anyone interested in student-centered, experiential education.

In my opinion, programs like this are the hope for the world. ~ Heather K., Small business owner, Floyd, VA
